Protecting the Environment
Energy Efficient Products

One of the best ways to protect the environment is to purchase energy efficient products that require fewer energy resources to operate. Not only will you make a difference to the environment, you’ll also save on operating costs. Make sure your heating and cooling products have high energy efficiency ratings such as SEER and AFUE.

ENERGY STAR® Program

ENERGY STAR promotes energy efficiency among residential appliances, because household appliances have the potential to contribute a great deal to air pollution. ENERGY STAR promotes energy efficient furnaces, heat pumps and air conditioners, and thermostats, among other products.
Puron® Refrigerant
Environmentally sound, chlorine-free Puron refrigerant is the refrigerant of the future. Developed to replace R-22 refrigerant, Puron refrigerant is not only environmentally sound, but is also more efficient. In fact, Bryant was among the first heating and cooling manufacturers to use a non-ozone-depleting refrigerant, such as Puron refrigerant.

Arthur Funeral Home

The Arthur Funeral Home has always taken part in re-cycling.  We have blue and yellow boxes for general waste. We donate all aluminum material (cans, etc.) to the Masonic Lodge Shriners, and they use them to raise money for charity.

All waste office paper is blue boxed and collected by Green Circle Environmental to shred and recycle.

All cardboard is disposed of separately and collected to be recycled as well.

We take part in the Lions Club Eye Glasses collection, that takes old eye glasses, recycles them and donates them to those in need in third world countries.

The Funeral home also has new options surrounding environmentally friendly merchandise such as a large selection of cremation urns as well as caskets.
The Arthur Funeral Home is an active participant in keeping our environment friendly.

‘Recycle, reuse. I make sure when I leave a room I turn off the lights. Also the children at the school made a compost today teaching them ways to save on reducing their garbage. I have a camp and we have solar panels to run are power’

‘Use only washer and dryer after 10 pm

‘Ride my bike more’

‘I used to leave lights on all over the Apt. Now I turn all lights that are not required& I don’t pay Utilities!’

‘My computer is set for energy save overnight. I start the dishwasher later in the evening. Use cold water to wash clothing. Recycle.’

‘I have electric heat, all thermostats are turned down very low in the living area and off in the areas I spend little or no time in. I line dry all clothes, do not use the dryer, even in the winter, having electric heat, the moisture the wet clothes put into the air is also beneficial. Have also repaired toilets that may be leaking to save water’

‘When brushing my teeth, I turn the water on long enough to wet the brush, turn the water off while brushing & turn the water on only long enough to clean the brush. If everyone would do this it would save a terrific amount of water usage. The way to test the amount of water used while brushing your teeth, just put the plug in the sink & let the water run continuously until you are finished brushing. Then try the same routine using the water on-off method. Especially if there are a number of individuals in the household, you would be surprised what amount of water you save’

‘I make sure lights are out in rooms that aren’t being used. Before I go to work, I shut down the computer instead of having it on all day. When I went out of town, I unplugged TV’s, etc.. Since I found out they use energy just being plugged in, even though they aren’t on. When something is almost done on the stove, I shut off the burner (or oven, if I’m using the oven) and let it finish with the heat remaining. I switched to the curly light bulbs (sorry, I can never remember the name of those things.) lol I have an energy saving fridge and when my stove no longer works, I will be sure to use an energy saving stove. I had my dish washer taken out- I do dishes by hand. (Okay, that one I may be just a little sorry for) lol’

‘I only run the dishwasher every other day; I need hot soapy water any way for clean-up and pots so I do only put glasses and plates in the dishwasher. I installed valves near all showerheads so water flow can easily be adjusted (turned low) while lathering, shampooing, and shaving, etc. This saves water and the natural gas used to heat it’

‘Change all the light bulbs to energy saver type. Keep the heat temperature down to about 68 F. Load up the dishwasher, washer, dryer and only put them on when it is full. (Because of new Smart Meters I will be watching PUC guide as to the less expensive time to put the appliances on. Use our microwave as much as possible in place of regular kitchen stove’

Rain barrels for watering lawn and gardens. Solar power outdoor lighting. Motion lights outside. All new major appliances are energy efficient.

Chg. your filter in your furnace every couple of months to keep your furnace running clean

We unplug appliances that aren’t being used, like the washer, dryer, coffee maker, etc. We use a power bar to the TV and stereo and shut those off in between uses.

I compost, use rain barrels, keep appliances unplugged between uses, and turn off lights in rooms not being used

Installed dimmer switches on all lights at home -at work, keep computers off when not in use & turn off lights not required

All the light switches where I work have been switched to sensors to reduce energy and I plan to do this at home as well.

Change light bulbs; look for draft around windows and doors

At the Office-shut off lights and turn down heat when I leave each night Home-energy efficient bulbs/shut off lights and TV’s in rooms not occupied/use appliances on “off” hours as much as possible/hang out laundry and use woodstove/ in-floor radiant heat.

The Hybrid Home Heating System

How EarthWise™ Hybrid Split Systems work

S&T Group ‘More than Just Electrical’

 158 Sackville Road,

Sault Ste. Marie, ON, P6B 4T6
705-942-3043

www.stelectrical.com

A hybrid system is one that’s capable of heating your home using either electricity or fossil fuel. A Trane EarthWise™ Hybrid system combines an XLi electric heat pump with a variable speed gas or oil furnace for ultimate efficiency.

With the flexibility of two fuels, the system can actually optimize your energy use by switching back and forth to whichever source is most efficient for your comfort.

Even in northern climates, the electric heat pump can find enough ambient heat in the air to keep your home warm and comfortable well into fall. But when there’s not enough ambient heat and a fossil fuel becomes the most efficient option, the system will switch to either natural gas or heating oil for the toasty, cozy heat of a furnace. The system’s switch point is set automatically by your dealer, but can be overridden with the Comfort Control Module.

When winter ends and warm temperatures return, the heat pump will reverse its operation; instead of finding ambient heat in the air, it will pull the heat out of your home and radiate it outside. The furnace won’t ignite, but will instead serve as a variable-speed blower to move the cooled air produced by the heat pump. This year-long efficiency is what makes Trane EarthWise™ Hybrids such a smart choice.

Healthy Eating Tips – New Ideas and Old Fashioned Advice

If this looks good, you can get it from the Health-Check menu at Caseys Grill. Bar.

Scroll through pages of tips, tricks and ideas below. You’re bound to find something that works for you and your family. You’ll see a variety of ideas and opinions, some very interesting.

Eat 5 or more fruits or vegetables each day

Eating 3 meals a day at regularly the same times each day as close as possible and follow the food rules of eating grains, vegetables, proteins for a balanced diet. This helps to maintain your weight and you do not have eating binges throughout the day. If you are trying to loose weight, follow the same pattern but just eat a bit less at each sitting.

I eat yogurt for desert instead of oh so good cakes, cookies and donuts!

I start my day off by eating oatmeal (high in fiber) topped with blueberries, (antioxidant), I use maple syrup instead of sugar. I feel full till lunch and find I’m not as hungry all day.

 Switch lunch and supper

I began weight loss by recording what I ate and how much. As I journaled I was able to keep track and eliminate carbs for a time and reintroduce a little at a time.

 Drink water before each meal

I try to eat smaller portion sizes than I really want to and I try to have some piece of fruit at every meal.

EVOO – extra virgin olive oil and LOTS OF WATER

 Never snack after dinner

Stay away from too much salt

Eat some fruit with your breakfast.

Eat a lot of green veggies, less salt, lots of fruit

 Eat small meals and walking

Simple – eat only when you’re hungry, and only until you’re full.

Fish at least once a week

Eat a lot of greens, fish, chicken, cut down on salt &sugar

Cut down on sugar and greasy foods

I love to walk so after I’m finished 5 kms I eat shortly afterwards as your metabolism is working harder and will burn off the calories.

Cut out junk food as much as possible

Low fat food, carrots, celery, cauliflower & broccoli other fruits

Drink water – watch your carbs – limit your junk food

 Lots of salads

 Never eat after 7 pm

Go by the Canada easting guide. Avoid drinking pop. Go for a daily walk. Avoid junk food, and if you want a snack eat popcorn, but not laced with butter.

 Stay hydrated!

Instead of drinking pop, use a juicer. If craving carbonation, add ginger ale. Yum

Eat your vegetable/salad first….then you will be less likely to eat too many carbs or fat

Portion control, fresh or frozen fruits & vegetables with a glaze when craving something sweet.

Drink 8 oz water 1/2 hour before every meal

I try to plan my meals and exercise times out in advance. If I go by my cravings then I am in serious trouble, and if I wait until I “feel” like exercising it would probably never happen!! Lol

Try to eat as little of packaged food with preservatives as possible

I eat whole wheat bread lots of fruits

No longer eat regular potatoes, have replaced them by eating sweet potatoes. Great as fries or baked in the oven.

Eat a lot of raw vegetables when wanting to snack

Don’t’ have cookies in the house

I try to eat smaller meals every 3-4 hours. Also, I drink mostly water and avoid sugary beverages.

Always eat at least something at breakfast time

Stop drinking soda pop. Stop eating junk food.

Use smaller plate ton avoid overeating

Eat an apple before a meal you will fill much faster and healthier

Have veggies at night for a snack instead of goodies

Work out first thing in the morning and make sure to hydrate your body so your organs work well.

 Don’t eat past 6pm :)

 Don’t eat after 7pm

Don’t eat after 8pm and drink a lot of water!

Eat Fruit and vegetables, and drink lots of milk

Don’t starve yourself. Treats are good in moderation. If you deprive yourself of the simple joys of delicious food, you will be unsatisfied! Portion control is important with food. Don’t eat the whole bag of mini-chocolate bars this Halloween; eat one (or two!)

I eat less red meats & double up on the veggies.

Never eat anything heavy late at night

We keep lots of fruit on hand, and have a snack between meals. Small snacks prevent everyone from over eating at meal times.

Do not add salt to food while cooking

We try to eat a balanced diet – meat, vegetables, salads and mostly all non-processed foods. Enjoy Yogurt

Cut up vegetables all at once and store them in the refrigerator, makes for quick access

Wash fruit before you put it into the fridge, easy to access, encourages others in your family to eat it, and especially kids

Always have fresh vegetables clean and handy!

 Try harder

I try to balance my food intake with exercise.

Oatmeal porridge for breakfast and no salt

 Write down what you eat

Eat 4-6 fruits and veggies a day

Visalus Shakes are great – packed full of nutrients! Have one for breakfast with a banana, skim milk, and ice. Blend in the “magic bullet” and you will feel full for hours. Added bonus, your energy will increase and, if you include a second shake, healthy well balanced snacks and dinner plus some exercise you can watch the pounds melt away!

 I only eat rye bread

I MAKE UP A LARGE BATCH OF OATMEAL AND THEN FREEZE THEM IN SERVING SIZES. THIS WAY THEY ARE READY FOR ME OR THE KIDS IF YOU HAVE THEM

I try not to eat greasy fast food. Always have a colourful plate.

I try to cook low fat

Always eat a good breakfast, get the metabolism going. Eat a good supper early before 6. Never eat after 6, if your hungry eat fruit something with no fat.

Make my lunch from the previous dinner’s leftovers, keeps me from fast food-ing my lunch. Make a healthy smoothie in the mornings to bring to work for breakfast. Use a smaller plate for my meals, eat less.

Sandwiches- do not use butter or margarine to cut down on fat content. Use other condiments that you are probably using along with the butter, i.e. mustard, low fat mayo. You will never miss the butter!

Lower fat intake. Use less butter when cooking. Use Extra Virgin Olive oil instead. Bake or broil instead of deep frying everything. Roasted vegetables are delicious. Use your favorite vegetables such as: broccoli cut into florettes. Coat with olive oil and salt and pepper to taste. Cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for about ten minutes then turn over and cook another 10 minutes until slightly caramelized. Delicious!!

If I feel like a snack I walk away and get a drink of water

Drink V8, eat a variety of salad, and don’t eat late in the evening

I get my salad dressing on the side at a restaurant and dip the fork into it so I get a taste every bite and some restaurants put too much on the salad!

Pack frozen juice box with your child’s lunch to keep everything cool.

I cut up my veggies and place them in containers with cold water-more likely to eat them if they are ready to eat. I also cut up my fruit each day.

I have a smoothie every morning for breakfast with soy milk, protein mix, banana, yogurt and frozen fruit of some kind.

I eat small meals six times a day.

When buying bread, always buy whole wheat. Serve your meals from the stove as apposed to family style.

Don’t have any butter in the house!

Be aware of what you are eating each day. Find out the nutritional value of your choices and try to replace the unhealthy ones with better more nutritious ones bit by bit

 Everything in moderation

Eat often (every 4 hrs or so) so you try not to overeat.

I WORK IN THE BUSH AND VERY HARD, I’M IN GOOD SHAPE FOR 61 EAT LOTS OF MEAT POTATOES AND VEGGIES, PLUS CAN OF PORK AND BEANS A DAY. LOTS OF FRUIT

Try to eat the main meal of the day as close to mid day as possible, rather than late in the evening. Avoid fried foods

Always start your day with breakfast to boost the metabolism

Pre portion your meals and when the plate is empty you’re done

I eat an apple every morning; it controls my appetite throughout the day and gets me moving in the morning.

Cook at home its one of the easiest ways to eat healthy without added fat, sodium, and chemicals. My son was called into dinner one night when his friend asked what he was having my son replied home made chicken pot pie and peach cobbler. His friend at that point asked what the box they came in looked like my son explained that his mum doesn’t use boxes that she makes dinner from scratch to which the reply was Oh all my mom knows how to make comes out of a box. People need to realize that waking up 15min earlier you can make your coffee to go, have a fruit and a piece of toast for breakfast instead of spending money on fast food and coffee, and the from your own kitchen foods are better for you to boot.

AVOID PROCESSED FOODS. EAT FRESH INSTEAD. THROW AWAY THE SALT SHAKER

Why have plain water? Introduce a lemon to detoxify your body.

Eat veggies instead of potato chips.

Have a glass of warm water at night before bed, as it tends to relax and make you sleep better.

Only one helping at mealtime, no snacking. Only with healthy snacks, celery, etc.

Start your morning with a good breakfast which will keep your metabolism going all day. Cereal and banana is the way I go

Grains, calcium and protein do a body good. Always follow your Canada food guide

Plan your meals ahead of time to avoid making bad choices

I do not eat after 8pm and also try to eat my big meal early in the day.

 Brown instead of white

Eat a balanced diet. Omitting fat totally from your diet is not the answer to losing weight.

Check labels to see fat and sodium contents

 Eat organic produce and meat

I would rather cook a meal from scratch than use any boxed mixes. The more fruits and vegetables you have in your diet the healthier you can be.

 Brush teeth after every meal

Drink plenty of water. Eat a balanced diet to keep your blood sugar level throughout the day

Choose lean cuts of meat to cut down on fat intake

Make half your plate vegetables and fruit one quarter protein and one quarter carbs.

I choose foods with more fibre to keep me feeling full longer, and foods that are lower in fats and sugar.

Eat home grown and no salt

I eat lots of fibre and drink water and walk everyday

We don’t eat many packaged foods as they contain a lot of salt and unhealthy ingredients such as MSG, and Trans fats. I like to plan my meals around the four food groups. So we’ll have meat, a vegetable or two, and whole grain or rice for supper for example, with a glass of milk. Eating healthy snacks are encouraged as well, such as a trans fat free popcorn or grabbing a fruit. Lately we’ve enjoyed making milk shakes, which can be make pretty fast and are healthy – for example mix 1c milk, banana, frozen berries and blend…ymmm good for you too!

Eat 5 small healthy meals per day, drink water

Don’t prepare so much food to avoid snacking on leftovers

I eat a nice salad every day for lunch

Be a vegetarian.

Don’t get hung up on weight, as you get older your weight should change

Drink a lot of water – many times you might feel hungry but actually thirsty

I have really cut down on processed foods to cut out the sodium, and drink lots of water.

Use a small plate and fill half with vegetables. Use the remainder of the plate to add protein and any carbs.

I try to avoid salty snacks such as chips. I only eat them if we are invited out and not at home.

Have two vegetables, one carbohydrate, and one protein for supper and 8 oz of water

 Canola oil and canola margarine

 Avoid candy

Eat slower. It gives your body time to realize you are full so you usually end up eating less. (Plus you have more time to enjoy and savour what you are eating)

I cut my veggies up, place them in Ziploc bags with a little water in the fridge to keep them crisp. I find that if the veggies are cut up you eat them more

Keep clean cut veggies in bags in the fridge along with homemade low fat dip. Leave clean fresh fruit on the table in plain view.

Eat fruit instead of sweets! Pack a huge bag of ready to eat servings of fruit and veggies and boil up some eggs for work each week! Bring on Monday and your snacks are there and ready to munch when you need a quick snack!

Eat fruit on an empty stomach and allow at least 20 minutes before eating anything else. This helps with digestion.

Reduce your carbs to keep your blood sugars under control

Eat only foods with one ingredient – i.e.: vegetables, fruit, meat (chicken, pork)

Snack on edamane (soy beans in the pod) … 90 calories all protein

I eat a lot of yogurt, cheese, almonds and drink a lot of water. I always have breakfast as it gives you energy for the day, and it is the most important meal of the day.

I eat about 6 times a day, small portions of course so that I don’t pig out at 1 or 2 sittings during the day

Bake, BBQ or broil meat. Have at least five servings of fruit or veggies each day and drink lots of water.

I like to put out sliced veggies with our dinner. This is the best way to get my kids to eat veggies.

I eat less red meats & double up on the veggies.

Try to keep the protein on your plate, the size of your palm

Eat baked or broiled at supper time, not fried. Eat your lightest meal for supper and if you are going to snack make it a piece of fruit.

Make sure you eat breakfast every morning and also drink at least 2 glasses of water when you wake up. You need it to rehydrate your body.

Fortunately my husband & I are in our 80 & 70’s & we basically must be doing something right. We usually eat well balanced meals, meat, veggies, & salads. Have Yogurt ice cream as well as the cookies, etc.

 Eat an egg every morning

Increase fibre thru fresh fruits, vegetables. Get out a nice dish….presentation is everything! Make up colourful platters, do you ever go to a party and not see people eating whatever is in sight! Enjoy

 Cut out greasy french fries

Watch the AMOUNT you eat and snack on veggies or fresh fruit NOT canned as it contains sugar & get more active. Walk, swim, run, etc.

Use a smaller plate at meal time. Food looks more plentiful on a small plate. Also allot yourself smaller snack portions. (i.e.) instead of sitting with the entire bag of chips or popcorn, take out a small bowl and fill it from the larger bag. When the bowl is empty you are done. You probably will eat slower as you see your smaller bowl emptying.

 A lot of garlic!

Making sure we sit down every night as a family for a healthy supper.

I make one day a week my anything day. My anything day is to eat anything I want at some point during the day, for example. Pizza for dinner, or takeout for lunch.

Change one bad habit a month until you have developed healthy eating patterns.

Use becel instead of butter, 1% instead of 2%. Whole wheat instead of white

Avoid the 3 s’s. No sweets, no snacking and no seconds. It really works.

At night when you crave sweets try dry cereal special k

I eat sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds every day – it makes me feel full and I don’t eat junk food.

In our cereal I add sesame seeds, cinnamon, and hemp hearts

 Eat light popcorn.

Try to keep the grease out Eat whole wheat instead of white breads and pasta

Have plenty of calcium everyday especially when over 40!

Eat 7 small meals per day

I start every day with breakfast. Making sure that it includes fruit & a protein. Cut out all white flour, & white sugar

I try to stay away from the frying pan

Lots of fresh salad and veggies, with grilled meat and NO salt. Try to eat the main meal of the day at mid day rather than the evening

Ask yourself if you really want to eat it and is it worth it.

Use 9 inch plates. Many stores sell 11 inch plates. A smaller helping looks much larger on a small plate. Also, try to get a dietician to show you models of standard helpings. It helped me a lot.

Eat many meals a day Read labels DO not “taste test” all foods when you are cooking them. Do not finish off your children’s plates…”rather than throw away good food” Follow the healthy eating guide of Canada DO NOT GO ON FAD DIETS…..eating healthy is the way to go!

To curb calories, I put my fork down between bites, check the internet often for healthy recipes and I’m not afraid to try them out on my husband.

Firstly I will inform you that I am a heart patient. It will be 2 years in Feb I had a heart attack. There were different factors that brought it on firstly I was a smoker, secondly was stress as I have a very stressful job. What I have done is I no longer have salt in my foods. I buy low fat food items. Low carbs is important and try to live a stress free life which I am working on. Getting more active and I have been smoke free for the past 20 months

IN BAKING AND COOKING, I HALF THE AMOUNT OF SALT CALLED FOR

Buy smaller qty’s of chips so I won’t eat the big bag

Fill my plate with 3/4 vegetables.

I try to eat small nutritious snack for example, an apple and a small amount of low fat cheese every 2 – 3 hours in order to avoid overeating at lunch and dinner time. If you are not a fan of gyms, sign up for a class you enjoy and do that a few times a week instead.

Eat a good breakfast that fills you up. Add some granola to yogurt or regular cereal or make a wrap with whole wheat tortilla, spread with peanut butter and jam, add a whole banana and wrap up. Healthy, quick and filling1

Green tea and fruit after supper, no sweets or salty snacks.

PUC and NORDIK Institute Partner on Water Conservation Study

Algoma University Media Release
(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – February 15, 2012): The Public Utilities Commission of the City of Sault Ste. Marie (PUC) has recently partnered with NORDIK Institute at Algoma University to determine city residents’ attitudes towards water conservation. The study will include surveys, focus groups and public information sessions and is funded by the ‘Greening Ontario’ fund, a provincial initiative. ”In order for the Public Utilities Commission to promote practical and effective water conservation measures in our community we must know how water is currently being used by consumers,” said PUC President Brian Curran. “We need to know how efficient current water devices and appliances are in the home and we need to understand whether consumers are willing to take action to reduce their water consumption.” Data collected in the survey will provide a base-line understanding of attitudes and water use. “Water conservation is of increasing concern around the world”, stated NORDIK Research Director, Dr. Gayle Broad, “and many people would like to decrease their ‘environmental footprint’ but aren’t certain how to go about that. We believe that this research will help local residents understand the beneficial impact of simple small changes in their home”. Those changes include such items as rainwater use for gardening, and use of newer appliances that have adopted conservation standards. The survey, which will take only about 10 minutes to complete, will be distributed to every household in Sault Ste. Marie over the next few weeks via an information package contained in their PUC invoice, with a goal of survey completion by mid-March. NORDIK research assistants will be collecting the data to ensure anonymity of research participants.  Participants may complete the survey either on-line at: http://app.fluidsurveys.com/s/pucsurvey, by requesting a paper copy from NORDIK, or alternatively by telephone. For a paper or telephone survey please contact Victoria Thomas at 705-949-2301 ext. 4357 or Ian Brodie at 705-949-2301 ext. 4370.

Going Green and clean at Sault College

Sault College students gave Energy Minister Chris Bentley and Sault MPP David Orazietti a crash course overview on building green energy equipment.

Renewable Energy and Green Construction Techniques program students engaged in conversation with Bentley describing the technical side of the program including Green Construction Techniques and Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems.

College college staff, administration, and faculty watched and listened along side the minister.

“This is the foundation for a strong economy,” said Bentley. “Together, we are moving forward with our plan to build a modern, clean, reliable electricity system that Ontarians can count on. We’re creating jobs for our families today and training Ontarians for the high-skilled jobs of tomorrow in our clean energy sector.”

Sault College is one of 13 colleges and three universities that offer programs related to clean energy.

“We are committed and proud to provide a skilled ready labor force for this emerging sector,” said Dr. Ron Common, President of Sault College.

The Renewable Energy and Green Construction Techniques program at Sault College is the study of the expanding and emerging fields of energy conservation, green construction and renewable energy including wind, solar, geothermal and bio-based fuels.

“This Sault College program is helping provide local students with skills the need to be successful in the new clean energy economy, while Ontario’s Clean Energy Strategy has made Sault Ste. Marie a North American leader in this sector,” said David Orazietti, MPP, Sault Ste. Marie.

Local firms help new Sault high school go solar.

Work has begun on the 90Kw flat roof mount solar array at Ecole Notre Dame des Grand Lacs located at the top of the hill on North Street in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.
On September 1, 2011, Le Conseil Scolaire Catholique Du Nouvel-Ontario, issued a Request for Proposal to design, supply and install a 90 KW Solar PV at the Ecole Notre-Dame du Sault at 600 North Street here in Sault Ste. Marie.
The purpose of the RFP, was to invite qualified design-build solar contractors listed on the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) Renewable Energy Technology (RET) Vendor List.
Solar Logix, head office in Thunder Bay, on behalf of their Solar Logix division in Sault Ste. Marie, was one of six companies to submit an RFP.
In October 2011, at a public meeting at the offices CSCNO in Sudbury the six RFP’s were opened and read.

“We a very happy with the results of the tendering process and Solar Logix , SSM has put in place a team of experts to complete the solar array installation using all of our own specially trained installers to complete this job,” says Gerry Bugyra, general manager, Solar Logix, SSM.

Trevor Sawchyn, P.Eng, CME, is the project manager and team leader.

Sawchyn is responsible for the planning, supervision and construction of the project.

Sawchyn brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this project, having done several large FIT and microFIT installs in Sault Ste Marie and area.

Ruscio Masonry and Construction LTD in SSM, was awarded the contract to complete the new building and renovations of the present school.

Local solar panel manufacturer Heliene Inc. on Allen’s Side Road will supply all of the 305 W solar panels to complete the job.

Sunrise Power will supply the Solectria inverters, while the racking and design layout is supplied by Unistrut Canada with the mechanical installation by SEI.

CSCNO chose YB Architects and Halsall Engineering of Sudbury and Enermodal Engineering Inc. from Toronto to initiate the project on their behalf, prior to the new school’s design.

“Pending weather conditions, I anticipate completion of the project in four to six weeks,” says Sawchyn.

Solar Logix, located at 123 March Street, Suite 400 opened their offices in Sault Ste Marie back in Sept 2011, with several microFIT and FIT projects in Sault Ste Marie and the surrounding area waiting for the OPA approval, which is anticipated in the coming weeks.
